Two gold medals for STIGA players at the World Championships in MoscowDuring the World Championships in Moscow, China was the big favourites for both the men’s and the women’s title. The men’s team, with the STIGA player Xu Xin in the team, won over Germany in the final with 3-1.
Like the Chinese men’s team the Chinese women team was supposed to cruise and collect the gold medal. In the final the Chinese team (with Guo Yue in the team) faced Singapore with the no.2 in the world, Feng Tianwei (STIGA player). Feng Tianwei who has showed an outstanding form during the season and also at the World Championships started with a 3-2 victory over Ding Ning. The next time it was time for Feng Tianwei to enter the table, Singapore had a 2-1 lead over China. Feng Tianwei then faced the no.1 in the World, Liu Shiwei. It was clearly that both players was very nervous, Feng Tianwei since she had to chance to give Singapore their first World Champion title for team and Liu Shiwei since this could be the first time since the 80’s that China could lost the title. The match went to a final set. In the last set Feng showed the best of nerves and could secure the victory over Liu Shiwei and China.
